KUCHING: The medical department of Sarawak received 19,000 cases of dog bites since July 2017.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas told reporters 2/3 of the cases are involving dog and their own owners.
He therefore advised those being bitten by their pet to exercise caution in the wake of rabies outbreak.
“Wash the bite wound with soap for 15 minutes under running water, and quickly go to government clinic or hospital. The doctor will check whether to give a vaccination or not,” he said.
Uggah also revealed that Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) now have Rabies Whatsapp Hotline at +60162051111 that will be available for 24 hours.
On suggestion that Sarawak seek Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and United Nation (UN) help, Uggah they are weighing in the matter before making any decision.
